Baseline characterization and ongoing monitoring of reservoir fluids are an essential element of integrated field development of unconventional tight reservoir plays. Fluid geochemical data can be used as an independent avenue to complement geological, PVT and engineering studies to get a full understanding of drainage, fluid properties and well interactions. This course provides a general overview of the applications of reservoir fluid geochemistry to the appraisal and development of unconventional tight reservoir plays. The fundamentals of fluid mobility in tight reservoirs and the resulting subsurface commingling of fluids and anomalous GOR/CGR of produced fluids will be addressed. The course focuses on characterization of frack height, identification of well interactions and use of production allocation to track the evolution of the drained rock volume over the life of a well. Oil, wet gas condensate, gas and water chemistry interpretation will be included in the discussion. The preferred methods of sampling for baseline characterization of reservoir fluids and time series geochemistry will be discussed.Read more...
