Dr. Mazda Irani is the Chief Technology Officer at Ashaw Energy, where he leads the development of the company’s industry-leading, fully integrated simulation application. His role is centered on innovation, providing consulting services to a diverse range of Canadian and international operators and vendors. Dr. Irani specializes in artificial lift design, inflow control devices, waterflooding, and fracturing strategies, leveraging his extensive expertise to optimize oil and gas production.
Before his current position, Dr. Irani held technical and leadership roles at well-known organizations such as Sproule, FEP, Cenovus Energy, Suncor Energy, RPS Energy, and C-FER Technologies. He has an impressive publication record, with over 100 technical papers covering various aspects of reservoir and production engineering, underscoring his deep knowledge and significant contributions to the field.
Dr. Irani earned a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Calgary (2017) and a PhD in Geomechanics from the University of Alberta (2012). He also holds dual Master's degrees in Geotechnical Engineering and Structural Engineering, adding a multidisciplinary depth to his expertise. Additionally, Dr. Irani is an active instructor for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) worldwide, teaching courses focused on production aspects of both thermal and conventional oil and gas operations. He is a registered Professional Engineer with APEGA (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta), Canada, reflecting his commitment to professional standards and ethics in engineering.
