01. Lesson 1.01: Overview of Well Spacing In Spotfire

Hey everybody. My name is Bryan McDowell. And today we're going to be releasing a new course we called Calculating Well Spacing in Spotfire. Now this is an extension of our previous workflow that we showed in the beginner and intermediate class. If you took those classes, you'll remember that what we showed you was essentially 10 horizontal wells, more or less, on one section, and we just showed you how to get a very simple spacing calculation between those wellbores. The problem with that, though, is obviously we're usually dealing with way more sections, right. So rather than one section or 1 mi² of wells, what we're going to do is we're going to show you how you can modify that workflow to take up essentially an entire basin. More importantly is we're also going to show you how you can handle the kind of diagonal part of this. As you well know, mostdo not have all their wells as north-south or east-west. A lot of times we have these weird kind of diagonal wells. We're going to show you how to handle that. That's going to be really important when you start working in, say, like the Delaware Basin or even in theplay as well, too.
After we get through that, then the next thing we're actually going to show you is how to also calculate spacing between horizontal to vertical wells, right. This might seem a little bit extra for those of y'all that have dealt withs. You know that this is quite a bit of an issue and it can be pretty hard to calculate.
So with that we'll go ahead and get started, and hope to see you in the class.
