01. Lesson 1.01: Agenda Topics

Hello, welcome to Geomodeling and Geostatistics. This is geostatistical geomodeling. And we're giving an overview here in this course, many part course. The course is intended for the broad subsurface team as well as the hands on geomodelers. There are parts of the course that are high level and there's some theory; we'll go into theory as well. So let's move forward. There's a little bit for everyone on the team and the whole idea is to get everyone communicating across disciplines.

02. Agenda Topics

OK, so the course agenda is shown here. We're going to first go through a slide deck of the introduction, talking about what geomodeling is, what are the core competencies and roles. And so we'll have a separate summary slide for that coming up next. But then later in the course and the other slide decks, we're going to cover some basic concepts and theory. And so we'll look at some summary statistics, terminology that's necessary. Estimation and kriging is the next area of that, that's getting into the geostatistics. Simulations, we'll cover that. Simulation of continuous variables to get the theory behind stochastic simulation. Then we'll look at facies simulation and highlight 4 main pixel methods being used. Later, after we cover these theory sections, we're going to go into the workflow elements in geomodeling, in the fundamentals. These are generalized subsurface workflows and practice points. So we'll define the structure and stratigraphy, look at the facies in the modeling, log facies and such. Property modeling, that's the rocks and fluids in porous media. Then post-processing of the stochastic models, getting summary statistics, uncertainty, connectivity in the reservoir and look at using that for well placement. As well, we'll look at volumetric assessments with various constraints, cutoffs, and such. After that we'll look at re-scaling. We actually touch re-scaling early in the workflows and then at the end to deliver these models to the reservoir simulation. And finally, we'll cover other points on linking dynamic behavior and forecasting from the static models, the stochastic models without simulation.

03. Agenda Topics cont'd

So for this introduction section, we'll cover what is geomodeling. We'll highlight 3 core geomodeling competencies, cover the concepts and roles of geomodeling. Then there's the subsurface team and just some general workflow points, a schematic workflow. Selected geomodeling issues will be highlighted and some impacts. And then finally, summary remarks on this section.
