01. Lesson 1.01: IR Assessment Applications - Reservoir Management

Hi, I'm Allicia Davis of ADAV Geology Consulting, and I am here to present the course Integrated Reservoir Assessments with Production Mapping.
I've worked in the energy industry for 15 years, primarily in Chevron's technical center with U.S. and international teams. I'm a geologist by background and I specialize in integrating static and dynamic datasets to address subsurface uncertainties and improve reservoir management. By production mapping and data analysis, projects have supported basin and field development plans, reservoir models, and resource volumetrics. So I'm hoping to share that with you through this course.
Every project, like every reservoir, is a little different. I have considerable experience with both unconventional and conventional reservoirs as well as EOR and my country's experience are pretty broad, including the U.S., San Joaquin, Permian and DJ Basins, Partition Neutral Zone, UK, Thailand, Nigeria, Angola, Canada, Venezuela, and Azerbaijan. So with that, let's talk about Integrated Reservoir Assessments with Production Mapping.

02. Course Outline and Objectives

This course focuses on using static and dynamic production data to identify key drivers for conventional and unconventional reservoir behavior. So the maps and analysis are used to prioritize and support reservoir management activities, including EOR. You can also use this for appraisal and analog work. The power of the workflow is you can run in a matter of weeks and so you can prioritize activities in a short time frame.
But I'm hoping you learn through this course is recognize the capabilities of the workflow, be able to create a production map suite suitable for your business needs, understand the basics of data analysis to help identify your key reservoir behavior drivers, create production maps that are guided by those critical reservoir characteristics you've identified, and last, we'll talk about how to construct current hydrocarbon pore thickness maps and use them for volumetrics.
Who should be here and what do you get out of the course? So if you work with reservoirs, then you should take this course. It's for engineers and geologists as well as any other discipline. It's a good discussion tool for teams and you'll see how this is a quick way to check concepts and validate your assumptions about reservoir behavior. And overall, you're going to be using more of the data available to you to better understand your reservoir. For geologists, production data is that one dataset that you're guaranteed to have, no matter what basin or reservoir you get assigned to work it. For engineers, you already work with production data. But this course is going to show you how to use the data quickly outside of simulation or the other tools that you are already using. It also has applications for workovers, completions, and drilling.

03. Introduction to Integrated Reservoir Assessments

So in this first chapter, we're going to walk through 6 different sections to do kind of an overview of what the course is going to be about and the overall workflow as well as your recommended prerequisites.

04. Introduction to IR Assessments and Production Mapping

Integrated reservoir assessments with production mapping is a map-based analytical workflow, and we're going to use static and dynamic data to identify production trends and key drivers. Hopefully, that will help us to recognize connectivity andheterogeneity in a reservoir. We're going to enhance our EOR activities, development opportunities, and review reserve and resource volumes as a primary or secondary booking methodology.
It can be run quickly. So this workflow can provide quantified results in a relatively short timeframe, 2 - 12 weeks. Obviously, that's dependent on the field size and what you're looking to do with the workflow. Once it's set up, you can easily update it with new data.

05. Data Types for IR Assessments

I mentioned static and dynamic data a number of times and how that's going to be used within the workflow. And these are some examples of the types of work data that we can use. What's key is that any data of reasonable uncertainty that can give information on our reservoir characterization and fluid movement. So every reservoir has a slightly different dataset, as you well know, that is best used to help characterize your reservoir. It may include any of the static or dynamic data examples listed here, or you may have something that's not on the list.
So that was our introduction to the Integrated Reservoir Assessment Workflow withProduction Mapping. And in the next section, we're going to talk a little bit more about applications for reservoir management.
