01. Lesson 1.01: About This Course

Hello everybody. My name is David Anderson and I'm going to tell you a little bit about this course. This is the Introduction to the Oil and Gas Industry. I'm super excited to bring this course to the SAGA platform. This is something that has been a passion project for me. I love this material. I think what happens, the technology and everything that's used in the oil and gas business is very, very interesting and super inspiring. And my goal here is to teach everybody a little bit about this.

02. About this Course...

What I'm going to say is this course is, a good way to put this is it's a mile wide and an inch deep. I'm going to try to expose the audience to a wide variety of different topics. Hopefully you'll come out at the other end with some basic knowledge of a lot of different things. Not deep knowledge on anything, but this is an introductory-level course. It's non-technical, so it should be a lot of fun. Hopefully it will inspire you to learn more about various topics that you have interest in. This course is designed for folks that don't have a technical background. If you are somebody that's new to the oil and gas industry, this will give you a really good foundation to get started. If you're already in the oil and gas industry and you're just trying to expand your horizons, this will also be a good course to allow you to do that.
We will within this course, give you prompts in the transcript to get you to places where you can do a deeper dive on various subjects. There are much more technical courses on various aspects of the oil and gas industry, obviously on the SAGA Wisdom platform and the transcript. Watch the transcript for links to other lessons that can give you much more detail on these things. Those will be embedded prolifically within this course.
The other thing I'll mention is that we do provide these multiple choice quizzes at the end of each chapter. These are a fun way to test your knowledge on the subject matter. Lots of quiz questions that'll give you a chance to really make sure that you understand the material and own up your knowledge a little bit.

03. About the Instructor...

A little bit about myself. I was a managing partner (director) at Fekete Associates for many years. One of my favorite parts of working at Fekete was being able to teach this course or a course very similar to it. It was an introductory level course and I did that for several years, mostly for new hires and non-technical staff at Fekete.
My background is I'm a specialist in the area of reservoir engineering, specifically rate transient analysis. You'll see my RTA course on the SAGA Wisdom platform as well. I'm also a distinguished lecturer for the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Last but not least, most recently, I'm one of the co-founders and a principal reservoir engineer for SAGA Wisdom.
So without further ado, let's get started with the course. I hope you guys enjoy this. I certainly really enjoyed putting it together. I had a lot of fun with it. Hopefully this will give you a little bit of inspiration to do some deeper dives and give you a little bit of basis of knowledge in this amazing industry, the oil and gas industry.
