My name is Bresee Carlson. I am a partner with Kuiper Law Firm and I've been invited here today to hopefully teach a little bit about oil and gas law. I'm also going to test my skills because it is the Calgary Stampede. Oh no, this is not going well on how well I can draw a cowboy hat. I think I got to see.

Kuiper Law Firm, my firm, we represent multiple clients, large, small, all producers, some landowners in all Rocky Mountain producing states. Our practice focus is on mineral ownership, regulatory title representation. We've branched out into employment, and we also do liens debt financing, M&A transactions.

Today I'm going to cover Oil & Gas Law 101. Absolutely not meant to be a bible on the topic of law. If anyone knows anything about statutes, rules and regulations are endless. So today's course is merely educational or providing no legal advice.

05. Lifecycle of Development Process

But hopefully should provide a really good foundational understanding of the lifecycle of a development process and the laws and regulations that the basic principles of which you need to have an understanding to survive this landscape and comply with all applicable rules and regulations. Some of the topics that we will cover are things like identification of your lands and understanding your landscape, ownership, property rights. Establish a development plan, ordering your title opinions, understanding your title opinions, creating your to-do list of how to navigate your compliance obligations. Leasing, permitting, surface preparation and negotiation. Forming your unit, actually developing your unit. Preparatory, regulatory compliance, making sure you check all those little tiny boxes, a little tiny box can be the success or lack of success of any location. Properly aggregating the interests of your partners. And then finally, confidently clearing any location to drill. I very much so look forward to teaching this course, I really appreciate you for the opportunity and attending the course and I look forward to moving to the topics with you all.
