01. Lesson 1.01: Introduction to Well Testing

Hello everyone, and welcome to Revo Testing Technologies - Unconventional Well Testing Master Class. I am Darryl Tompkins, the chief technology officer of Revo Testing. I'll be going through the course with you today.

02. About Me

A little bit about myself. I've been in oil and gas since 2009, primarily reservoir engineering with a bit of production engineering mixed in there. And it's mostly been unconventional reservoir engineering. I am a Canadian living in Texas. I co-founded Revo in 2018. I am married with 3 boys, and in my spare time, I like to tinker in my garage, ride my bike, watch some Netflix, and chill. There's a picture of the gang right there. That's all my buds from Revo. Not a really big company, but we love each other nonetheless.

03. Revo Testing Technologies at a Glance

Here's a little bit about us. We're a real-time reservoir surveillance system with automated analysis tools, convenient data access, and easy-to-use visualizations, giving operators the ability to make quick, informed decisions from flowback through long-term productions.
We were founded in 2018. We're headquartered in Houston. And we've been trusted by more than 70 operators to provide reservoir insight and help manage initial production on over 1,500 wells across basins all over the world.
Our Revo iQ software offers real-time visualization and automated analysis tools. We have seamless data integration, unique bottomhole pressure correlations, automated RTA with our RAPD and APEX tools, easy-to-use visualization, flexible pricing, and available on demand via desktop or mobile device.

04. Revo iQ® Value Add

Some of the value adds Revo iQ brings is seamless data integration, where we can streamline field data via SCADA integration or data entry within Revo iQ. We can setup direct SQL connections to Power BI/Spotfire.
We provide real-time reservoir surveillance where we have our built-in bottomhole pressure correlations for every well type, and we use our proprietary RAPD and APEX automated diagnostic tools, which allow operators to quickly see changes in well performance and fracture conductivity.
We also provide operational oversight and reservoir insight. Now, this can enhance flowback production monitoring with access to hourly field data on demand, better visualization and surveillance over SCADA, and our Revo well concierge ensures clean data 24/7. Basically, it's three of us that just sit up 24/7 and make sure your data is OK.
We can also receive notification for production milestones, potential measurement errors, or recommend choke changes. And we can compare offset wells in the same geological area.

05. Revo iQ® Value Add (2)

We also can provide artificial lift optimization, where we manage artificial lift drawdown to protect your reservoir and maximize production.
We also can create considerable time savings where we make quick, informed decisions regarding choke changes in data on demand, and automated BHP correlations, and RTA tools.
And finally, we can tailor our flowback to meet internal objectives. Flow the well as efficiently as possible to improve NPV without significantly impacting long-term EUR. Minimize sand production and increase EUR through managed drawdown.

06. Reservoir Engineering Consulting

Finally, we offer reservoir engineering consulting. With our daily consulting service, Revo's highly experienced engineering team utilize proprietary workflows in combination with Revo iQ software to maximizewell performance through drawdown optimization and choke management.
We also offer two different types of reports. Our Revo flow well performance evaluation, which is an analysis workflow that applies straight line diagnostic methods to production data to build an analytical model that is used to determine the number of dominant fractures, fracture spacing, permeability, and reservoir pressure. We'll be covering that during this course.
And our foresight production forecast, which is a production forecast generated from a numerical model derived from the RevoFlo analysis using the initial production data, which typically tends to be 30 - 60 days worth of data to determine production rate, decline trends, and estimated ultimate recovery.

07. Course Overview

Now, on to our course overview. So, we're going to cover four different sections here. Our intro to this masterclass.
Then we'll get into measurements. In this section, we'll look at the effects of different data acquisition methods on data quality, how to identify rate measurement errors, and the effect of data quality on well performance diagnostics. The URTeC paper that we will be using and referencing throughout this section will be URTeC 2515.Darryl Tompkins, Marci Kerls, Oladapo Adejare, "An Examination of the Effects of Surface Data Acquisition Methods on Well Performance Evaluations and Completion Optimization", SPE/AAPG/SEG URTeC, Published: July 20, 2020
In Section 3, we'll be covering real-time automated well performance diagnostics. So, in this section, we'll discuss methods for automated performance diagnostics for real-time drawdown optimization. And we'll be referencing URTeC 208282.Darryl Tompkins, Oladapo Adejare, Marci Kerls, Adam Swartley, Christina Costello, "Automated Well Performance Diagnostics in Unconventional Reservoirs: A Multi Basin Study for Early Time Production Optimization", SPE/AAPG/SEG, Nov. 15 2021
And then, finally, in Section 4, we'll be looking at production analysis and production forecasting using initial production data. Now, in this section, we'll go over the workflow outlined in URTeC 3723724 to determine key reservoir parameters from initial production data, and then how to use those parameters to build the test models.Oladapo Adejare, Darryl Tompkins, Marci Kerls, "Production Analysis and Production Forecasting in Unconventional Reservoirs Using Initial Production Data", Paper presented at the SPE/AAPG/SEG URTeC Conference, June 20–22, 2022
Thank you for joining me in this course. If you have any questions, make sure to ask them below, and make sure to join me in the next section.
