01. Lesson 1.01: Introduction & Intent Of This Course

Welcome to Communication Essentials for Team Members and Leaders of Cross-Functional Teams.
So have you ever left a conversation so frustrated because you tried in so many ways to get your point across and at the end, you found that your audience still didn't get it? Or have you ever been in a conversation when you wanted to express your opinion but you just couldn't cut the other person off so that you can express your thoughts? Or have you been so disappointed with your team because you missed an important deadline due to the lack of communication between some of the team members? Well, I have. I have been in so many times early on in my career that I decided to invest my time, my energy, and my resources to improve on my communication skills. But not only on my communication skills, but also my team members. And what I have seen is that we increased productivity. We increased project delivery. We had so much more fun in the office. And also for us as individuals, what I've seen is an increase in confidence. So I have and I have experienced it so many times early on in my career that I decided to invest my energy, time, and resources to learn about communication and not only for myself, but also for my team members. And what I have noticed is that we had an increased productivity. We met our deadlines. We had so much more fun in the office. And also as individuals, we really significantly increased our own confidence.

02. About the Instructor

My name is Anita Csoma and I am the designer of this course and I will be your instructor.
So I am a geoscientist by background. In 2003, I have received my Ph.D. at the University of Kansas. I started out my career as a diogenesis and carbonate expert, and very early on I transitioned into various team leader roles. I have worked in 3 different major companies for ConocoPhillips in Houston, for Shell International in the Netherlands, as well as for MOLGroup in Hungary, Budapest. Throughout my leadership roles, I have had my teams, but I also led several matrix organizations. When we are in the Matrix role, persuading and motivating our employees is so critical and the best way to do is with crisp communication.
So in 2022, I left MOLGroup and I started my own company, which is called Scale Up Foundation, where I support innovative teams and start-up companies in their scale-up process, mostly focusing on strategy and the human experience.
I am also a faculty member and mentor at the SEED Executive School in Budapest, where I teach various leadership courses as well as designing them. So some of my own courses at aspiring women leaders and most recently I taught design thinking.
I am also staying very close to geoscience. I am a president-elect for AAPG Europe.
